Tech Support: Vapor Tachometer

Trail Tech Tech Support

Vapor computer stops working after washing the machine, then begins working again after awhile.
The small connectors on Vapor are high quality and waterproof. However, the wire size is very fine and it is possible for water to wick inside. Although there should be no lasting effects (they will dry out again and work ok), one can guard against this by applying a small amount of silicon where the wires enter the connectors.
Tachometer is erratic.
Wrapping the tachometer wire sensor positive(+) lead around the spark plug wire or boot too many times can be problematic. 5-7 wraps is enough. Interference becomes more likely with increased wrapping.
Vapor on Raptor 700 has erratic tachometer reading, and won't read above 3,000 RPM.
  1. Make sure there is a good ground - either frame or behind one of the CDI bolts. The positive connection should go under the spade terminal of the orange wire.
  2. If both positive and ground are well connected, disconnect the power lead and test again. If this corrects the problem, swap the polarity on the power lead.
A number was put into the Pulse 2 setting, and now won't go back to 0.
The Pulse 2 setting can be returned to zero by using the right button to move over each digit (in data setting mode) and then left button to set the digit to zero. Remember to use the right button to return the cursor to the far left when a 10,000+ number has been entered.
